About The Position

The Child Support Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial stability of families involved in court-ordered child support arrangements. This position involves enforcing court orders related to basic support, medical support, and childcare support through various case management tasks. The specialist will monitor compliance with court orders, reconcile accounts, and utilize legal remedies to ensure payments are made. The role requires substantial computer use, analysis of information, and frequent public contact, as well as collaboration with the Dakota County Attorney's Office for legal actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree OR Associate's degree AND two (2) years of experience in a related field or office setting providing services to the public.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) AND four (4) years of experience in a related field or office setting providing services to the public.
  • Proficiency in keyboard skills including typing at least 35 WPM.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed degree in human services, liberal arts, paralegal, legal secretary, or accounting.
  • Direct work experience as a collections specialist, child support experience, financial assistance specialist II, case manager, or similar position.
  • Direct work experience with accounting, accounts payable/receivable, or bookkeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a case service plan for enforcement and educate case participants about court actions.
  • Provide ongoing case service and respond to customer service contacts through multiple mediums.
  • Monitor and coordinate cases to ensure compliance with court orders.
  • Coordinate second-level enforcement activity.
  • Participate in legal proceedings.
  • Mentor other agency staff on programs, work methods, and procedures.
