About The Position

Child-Specific Paraprofessional Job Summary: The Child-Specific Paraprofessional provides individualized support to a designated student with disabilities and complex health needs. This role ensures the student’s academic, medical, behavioral, and social-emotional needs are met in a safe and inclusive learning environment. The paraprofessional collaborates with teachers, parents, and related service providers to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and foster student success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in special education, particularly working with students with severe and complex health needs.
  • Familiarity with a variety of medical conditions and the ability to assist with health-related tasks.
  • Training in positive behavior support, crisis intervention, and de-escalation strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Physical stamina and strength to assist with lifting, mobility, and other support needs.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the student’s evolving needs and individualized learning plans.
  • Certifications such as First Aid, CPR, and crisis management (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to an assigned student during instructional and non-instructional activities.
  • Assist the student with personal care needs, mobility, and health-related tasks as required.
  • Support the implementation of the student’s IEP goals and accommodations.
  • Reinforce instructional content under the guidance of the teacher.
  • Assist with medical procedures such as G-tube feeding, medication administration, or other prescribed health tasks (with appropriate training and delegation).
  • Implement positive behavior support strategies, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Monitor the student’s progress and communicate observations to the teacher and team.
  • Support inclusion by assisting the student in participating in classroom and school activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, parents, and medical professionals to ensure coordinated support.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development related to special education and health needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
