About The Position

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $19.50 PER HOUR. The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community. ACS’ Division of Child Protection (DCP) investigates all allegations of child abuse and neglect that the city receives from the New York Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. Each year, the division investigates about 55,000 reported cases. The division is comprised of approximately 3,500 employees across the five boroughs at nineteen sites. Offices within DCP include Child Protective Borough Offices, Emergency Children’s Services, Special Investigations, Family Preservation and Family Services. DCP is seeking 8 highly motivated and detail-oriented Child Protection Undergraduate Interns to join our team. As a Child Protection Undergraduate Intern, you will support DCP in day-to-day operations and contribute to the planning and execution of long-term projects aimed at community engagement. This internship will offer an excellent opportunity to gain exposure in various aspects of child protection for those interested in pursuing a career in the field of Child Protection. Additionally, as a member of the 2026, ACS Summer Internship Program cohort, you will participate in an enrichment program designed to fully engage students into the ACS and NYC government experience. Internship programming includes professional development workshops, lunch and learns, speaker events, NYC government tours, and networking opportunities.

Requirements

  • As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to community partners
  • Support borough with in-house and outside community events
  • Assist with Campaign Against Hunger food deliveries and distribution
  • Assist with supply inventory required for supporting families
  • Assist with maintaining office coverage, filing important documents, and phone coverage, etc.
