About The Position

Northern Illinois Food Bank seeks extraordinarily motivated candidates to join our team as a Child Nutrition Summer Specialists, supporting the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program. This part-time seasonal role provides hands-on support for the Family Fresh Mart program, advocates for the nutritional needs of children at risk of hunger and helps ensure compliance with program requirements through collaboration with partner sites and NIFB staff. This position is approximately 30–35 hours per week. Workdays and hours are generally Monday through Friday, with variable start and end times, including early morning and later-day shifts. The position will run from May 18 through July 31, 2026. This Part-time seasonal position is based out of our West Suburban Center (Geneva) location.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently
  • Commitment to understanding and supporting NIFB’s mission; demonstrates compassion and awareness of hunger-related issues

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Familiarity with federal child nutrition programs is beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Visit partner sites during food distribution and service operation to ensure their compliance with program regulations and complete required visit documentation.
  • Support Family Fresh Mart produce distributions by staffing distributions and reworking the produce.
  • Communicate findings of site visits to Program Manager and if directed, discuss the findings from a site visit with the site director and conduct follow-up site visits.
  • Maintain accurate program files, site records and visit documentation.
  • Conduct outreach activities to identify and develop potential new sites to partner with Northern Illinois Food Bank.
  • Conduct on-site training and technical assistance sessions for partner site staff.
  • Assist with data entry as it relates to daily meal count information, invoicing, and site information.
  • Engender a positive relationship with all community and agency partners to ensure maximum utilization and involvement of NIFB.
  • Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or required.
