About The Position

The Child Nutrition Manager will supervise Child Nutrition Associates within their school kitchen. Managers are expected to ensure appropriate quantity and highest quality of food served to students and staff of MSD of Decatur Township.

Requirements

  • Foodservice experience required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • ServSafe Certified or become ServSafe Certified within 30 days of employment
  • Approved background check
  • Access to reliable transportation during working hours, travel is required between schools and meetings
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with parents, school administrators, staff and public/private agencies
  • Experience or willingness to learn GSutie, Google Drive, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to carry 25 lbs.
  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
  • Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matters.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in the preparation and service of meals for the students and staff of MSD of Decatur Township:
  • Follow all federal and state regulations for the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs
  • Comply with the food budget
  • Effectively utilize USDA foods
  • Ensure proper portion sizes and high quality, palatable food.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local food safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Order appropriate quantities of food and supplies as determined by the menu and volume required and assure proper storage and authorized use of the items.
  • Check and inspect all incoming food and supplies. Receive food and supplies which meet stated specifications.
  • Notify the Assistant Director of shortages, quality of products, and mistakes with deliveries.
  • Maintain a monthly inventory of all food and supplies.
  • Properly count money, and complete day end and month end reports.
  • Schedule substitutes, if necessary.
  • Coordinate with Site Supervisors for staffing needs such as open positions and daily absences.
  • Verify record of employee hours worked.
  • Prepare, forward, and maintain files of records and reports required:
  • Service records
  • Evaluations, and
  • Employee performance issues.
  • Utilize cost control procedures to avoid unnecessary food service operating costs and to stay within budgeted funds.
  • Initiate requests for equipment repairs or replacement.
  • Encourage meal participation by implementing merchandising and promotional techniques for meal programs and special promotions.
  • Complete required continuing education and participate in monthly manager meetings.
  • Perform all other tasks and assume additional responsibilities as requested by the Director and Assistant Director of Child Nutrition.
