Child Life Teacher
About The Position
DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan is committed to providing exceptional patient care in a supportive and collaborative environment, utilizing advanced technology. The Child Life Teacher, under the direction of the Child Life Services Department leader, provides educational services for hospitalized patients from Kindergarten through 12th grade. This role involves assisting patients with schoolwork, planning and implementing supplementary educational activities, and coordinating homebound services for patients unable to return to school post-discharge. The teacher also acts as a liaison between the hospital and the patient’s home school, obtaining assignments and communicating special needs for re-entry into the school environment. Additionally, the role requires maintaining appropriate patient chart notes regarding services rendered and information impacting the patient.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
- State of Michigan teaching certificate.
- One to two years teaching experience in a school or other educational setting.
Nice To Haves
- A special education endorsement is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Provides educational services for hospitalized patients in Kindergarten through 12th grade.
- Assist patients in completing schoolwork.
- Plans and implements supplementary educational activities.
- Coordinates homebound services for those patients who are unable to return to school after discharge.
- Maintains academic involvement with the patient’s home school by acting as a liaison between the hospital and the school.
- Obtains assignments and communicates special needs the patient may have upon re-entering the school environment.
- Provides appropriate patient chart notes regarding services rendered and information that could impact patient.
