About The Position
The Child Life Specialist at Sutter Health plays a crucial role in assisting pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) patients and their families to cope with the challenges of hospitalization and illness. This position involves the planning and implementation of evidence-based therapeutic, recreational, and diversion interventions tailored to the emotional and developmental needs of children and their families. The specialist is responsible for developing programs and services that address the specific needs of assigned clinical populations, ensuring that the child life department delivers high-quality, family-centered care and services. In this role, the Child Life Specialist will utilize their expertise in child growth and development, family dynamics, and therapeutic play to create a supportive environment for patients. They will conduct developmental assessments and implement therapeutic play activities for individual children and groups, applying their knowledge to assess children's behaviors and needs effectively. The specialist will also collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive support and utilize coping strategies to help children and families navigate their healthcare experiences. The position requires strong interpersonal communication skills, as the specialist will interact with children of all ages, their families, and hospital staff. They must be able to prioritize multiple demands in a dynamic environment and demonstrate the ability to handle crisis situations independently. The Child Life Specialist will also oversee the day-to-day activities of patients, families, students, volunteers, and interns, ensuring a cohesive and supportive atmosphere within the healthcare setting.
