About The Position

This job interacts directly with patients and family members, as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, to reduce emotional distress and trauma associated with illness, injury and health care, and to increase effective coping. Works to optimize development, normalize the hospital experience, promote the expression of feelings, enhance healthy independence, foster family strengths, and psychologically prepare patients and family members for stressful encounters throughout their healthcare experiences. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1 year of experience in child life, child and family studies, child development, or related field
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout and between facilities and work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).

Responsibilities

  • Provides assessments, interventions, and therapeutic techniques from infancy to adolescents.
  • Shares responsibility for department-wide direct services.
  • Acts as integral part of patient care team, advocating for patient and family needs with medical, nursing, communications/media, and other staff.
  • Participates in activities for professional development and maintains required clinical knowledge, training, and credentials.
  • Promotes family centered care initiatives.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
