About The Position

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB Promotes family-centered care by providing services to meet the psychosocial, emotional, and developmental needs of patients and families. REPORTS TO Director—Child Life JOB REQUIREMENTS Supervisory Responsibilities: No Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree Degree: Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Child Life, or other related field License/Certification Required: Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) or eligible to sit for the Child Life Certification exam Minimum Work Experience: 6 months related experience, which can include worksite educational experience REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Must possess excellent communication skills with diverse populations. Must have the ability to problem solve and work independently and must have strong interpersonal skills. Some computer skills helpful. Must meet physical requirements of this position. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Documents assessment, plans and interventions in the medical record; verbally communicates information when appropriate and compiles reports as needed. In collaboration with the medical and/or nursing staff, conducts medical play, psychosocial preparations and support during procedures. Participates in planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities, celebrations and events related to the departmental mission (i.e., holiday celebrations, volunteer recognition, Child Life week). Plans, implements, and evaluates programs and activities for individuals and groups of patients in the playrooms, at the bedside, in outpatient clinics, and in the Emergency Department, ensuring a safe, supportive environment. Acts as a liaison between patients, families, and staff. Serves as a resource and advocate on child developmental issues, providing consultation to the healthcare team. Participates in Quality Improvement Activities Participates in community education programs. Supervises Child Life students and volunteers. Willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested. Is cost conscious with Departmental resources. Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. Medium lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 20-50 lbs occasionally, 10-20 pounds frequently and 10 lbs constantly to move objects. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure for lifting or moving of up to 100 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing are required. Requirements
