About The Position
The Child Life Specialist position at Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara, CA, is designed to meet the psychosocial needs of hospitalized children through a comprehensive play activity program. This role is crucial in providing play opportunities and other experiences that aim to minimize the negative emotional and developmental impacts of hospitalization. The Child Life Specialist will work closely with pediatric patients, both ambulatory and bedridden, to assist them in coping with their illness and the challenges of being hospitalized. This involves creating and facilitating appropriate play activities that are tailored to the individual needs of each child, thereby promoting their emotional well-being and development during their hospital stay. In collaboration with other healthcare team members, the Child Life Specialist will identify the current needs of patients and develop care plan goals that are aligned with those needs. Participation in multi-disciplinary care conferences is essential to ensure a holistic approach to patient care. The role also includes ensuring that each child's program adheres to The Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements, thereby maintaining high standards of care. Additionally, the Child Life Specialist will coordinate the Child Life Program volunteers, which includes orienting, training, and supervising volunteers and students who provide support on the pediatric unit. The specialist will also be responsible for developing and implementing in-service training for hospital staff in the area of Child Life, ensuring that the program's effectiveness is monitored and improved as necessary. This position is vital in fostering a supportive and healing environment for children during their hospital experience.
