About The Position

As a Child Life Specialist (CLS), you will provide child life services to children and families of St. David's North Austin Medical Center to include consultation, education, performance improvement, policy and program planning, advocacy and environmental planning. As a member of the child life team, you will work collaboratively with the other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of care. You will carry out a comprehensive therapeutic program based on normal human development and the impact that illness, injury, disability and hospitalization have on the process. You will aim at meeting the emotional, social and developmental needs of pediatric patients. You will conduct evaluations, record evaluations in the patient's medical records and consult with physician and staff. You will facilitate therapeutic and medical play sessions to meet patients' emotional and developmental needs in accordance with medical order. You will provide and cooperate with programs which assure continuity in the child's normal life experiences, e.g. school programs, personal and holiday celebrations. You will educate and orient student groups, staff and other professionals to Child Life.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work or related field.
  • Current certification or eligibility for certification as a Child Life Specialist within one year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Child Life; Child Development or related field.
  • Experience working with hospitalized children or children in another setting; as well as counseling experience with individuals and groups
