Position Summary: The Child Life Specialist is responsible for the social, emotional and developmental needs of children being treated. At this level, the Specialist is assigned difficult cases requiring application of advanced Child Life Principles and 1) plans and implements interventions that support the child and the family in coping with illness and the medical environment, 2) provides diversional and therapeutic play for patients, 3) collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team to establish an environment supportive of the needs of children, and 4) develops healthcare educational programs within the community. Will supervise student interns and volunteers.

Requirements

  • Skill in working with groups of children, as well as on an individual basis
  • Skill in sensitively relating with children and families under stress, with families of various socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Minimum of three years experience
  • Experience recruiting, training and supervising volunteers
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist
  • Ability to apply advanced principles of child development and theoretical knowledge to work with children & families
