Child Life Specialist I
About The Position
The Child Life Specialist I delivers quality patient care utilizing basic clinical skills and knowledge for patients under the ages of 21. Work is with inpatients and outpatients for whom hospital confinement and medical procedures can be threatening and result in social withdrawal, maladjusted behavior, and other psychosocial complications. Work involves striving to promote the optimum development of children, adolescents and families utilizing appropriate developmental approaches while minimizing the negative aspects of hospitalization. At the James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital, located at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, we are committed to caring for the kids of eastern North Carolina. As the region's only Children's Hospital, this hospital within a hospital has a total 197 beds and bassinets, including a Level IV NICU, quaternary PICU with ECMO capabilities, a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department, and a specialized critical-care transport team. Requirements
- Four year degree: BS/BA in Child Development, Child Life or related field required- or higher.
- Child Development/Child Life or related field.
- Child Life internship, course work related to development of children and effects of hospitalization, preparation and coping techniques for hospitalized children and bereavement education, continuing education is required.
- One year or less experience as a Volunteer, practicum work, internship attendance a related conferences, workshops, seminars such as Child Life Council, graduate assistantship, and then entry level Child Life therapists.
