About The Position

The Child Life Activity Assistant, under the direction of the Child Life Manager, is responsible for material management and donations, facilitates hospital or clinic playroom operations, and bedside play. Plans and implements activities to encourage growth and development and normalize healthcare experiences. Observes responses of children and families and reports these observations to Child Life Specialists. Supervises and trains volunteers. Communicates with Child Life staff regarding volunteer interaction, communication and needs.

Requirements

  • Background knowledge in child growth and development usually acquired by 1-2 years of college coursework related to this field and/or an associate degree.
  • Previous experience working with children.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with patients, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Child Life Specialist with inpatient planning, implementing, and evaluating activities and interactions for the playroom and at the bedside.
  • Support development, meet emotional needs, and provide diversion for children.
  • Promote a family-centered care environment in the healthcare center.
  • Observe responses of children and families and report observations to Child Life Specialist.
