About The Position

The Child & Family Therapist is responsible for providing individual and family therapy to children and their families who have experienced sexual, physical, or emotional abuse. This role involves developing therapy plans, facilitating support groups, and managing necessary paperwork. The therapist will work primarily in an office environment and will supervise assigned staff, ensuring that therapy is tailored to the needs of the clients and their families.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in individual, family, and group therapy, including one (1) year experience in direct counseling to abused children and their families.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor or Marriage & Family Therapist under Texas State Licensing Laws, or possess a license in another state and be able to obtain a Texas license within 60 days.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with victims of crime.
  • Prior experience working with law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of a trauma informed and victim centered approach to counseling.
  • Prior experience working with children who have experienced or witnessed abuse.

Responsibilities

  • Develops individual and family centered therapy plans.
  • Provides individual/family treatment with primary focus on sexual, physical, or emotional abuse and neglect of a child.
  • Facilitates support groups.
  • Evaluates family dynamics and coping skills, individual coping skills, and use of peer and community resources.
  • Develops or updates material for clients and families on related issues of concern.
  • Conducts counseling at client's home if the case so requires.
  • Develops program and evaluation procedures.
  • Provides information to citizens about City, State, Federal and private programs.
  • Reviews paperwork to make sure all required information is updated.
  • Completes and submits monthly reports on client's service hours and characteristics.
  • Conducts case conferences with clients and employees.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
