About The Position

The Child Development Consultant plays a crucial role in supporting children and families enrolled in CAPC childcare locations throughout San Joaquin County. This position involves providing hands-on coaching, training, and behavioral support, particularly for families with open CPS cases or those participating in Cal-Works programs. The consultant is responsible for developing and implementing behavior modification plans, conducting assessments, and fostering relationships with families to engage them in services. The role also includes collaboration with teaching staff to implement strategies that support social-emotional development and address behavioral challenges in the classroom.

Requirements

  • BA degree in Child Development, early childhood education, psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience teaching/working with children (ages 0 to 5) and families.
  • Knowledge of behavior interventions and therapeutic techniques.
  • Experience supporting and implementing high-quality teaching practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish speaking preferred, not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on coaching experiences, training, and behavioral support for children and families.
  • Develop and implement behavior modification plans for managing young children's problematic behaviors.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and make referrals to community resources.
  • Provide instruction and training for teaching staff, including follow-up contact and mentoring.
  • Build relationships with families to engage them in all levels of service.
  • Implement Teaching Pyramid (CSEFEL) strategies to support behavioral challenges and social-emotional development.
  • Observe children for challenging behaviors and offer strategic interventions for teachers.
  • Collaborate with families to complete ASQ-SE rescreen assessments.
  • Communicate effectively with families about their child's behavior and recommendations for intervention.
  • Participate in clinical consultations to review child case histories and determine referrals for higher-level interventions.
  • Provide whole classroom social skills lessons to support children with challenges.
  • Conduct home-based visits and support families in implementing strategies outlined in the child's support plan.
