About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Child Development Center Director or designee, the Child Development Center Teacher is responsible for providing early childhood education to children up to five (5) years of age, developing and implementing age-appropriate educational activities, fostering growth, and ensuring the safety and well-being of the children of the Center. Participates in modeling best practices and professional behaviors in early childhood classroom instruction and assist in assessing performance and children's growth. The Child Development Teachers play a vital role in the child's development and must demonstrate empathy and passion for lifelong learning.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Must meet outlined Title V requirements.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, ethnic, racial, age, national origin, religious, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Child Development or Early Childhood/Pre-school Education or related field.
  • California Supervision Permit authorizing services in a Child Care Center.
  • Community College Instructor Credential in Psychology and/or courses in Child Development and Parenting.
  • Ability to relate and communicate with children, parents, staff members, and community organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment that supports children's development and readiness skills
  • Responsible for keeping classroom curriculum goals and objectives up to date.
  • Plans organizes, and conducts instructional programs and activities.
  • Actively participates in daily activities with children, facilitating their learning through play and interaction.
  • Provides mentorship and demonstrates developmentally appropriate methods and practices; serves as a role model and resource to Instructional Aides and service learning students; participates in the selection, orientation, supervision of all instructional aides and volunteers.
  • Ensures classroom management and all compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Implements instructional activities designed to foster children's progress in educational development and social growth.
  • Observes and assesses each child's development and progress, maintaining accurate records.
  • Conducts continuous diagnosis, evaluates individual child development, and assists with and participates in parent meetings and activities.
  • Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of supplies, equipment, and overall expenditures of child development funds.
  • Keeps attendance register during Center assignment.
  • Fosters strong relationships with families through regular communication, conferences, and involvement in center activities.
  • Communicates with parents and staff to develop positive, reciprocal relationships
  • Monitors student activities such as dressing, use of restrooms, play periods, lunchroom decorum, health conditions and quarantine, and overall discipline.
  • Escorts children on planned field trips during class time.
  • Operates instructional equipment.
  • Maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the field of early childhood education; incorporates new developments as appropriate.
  • Participates in professional development activities.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility principles in all aspects of job performance; actively promotes and creates a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
