About The Position

Provide direction for the children in the classroom and assist with the implementation of program curriculum. Provide quality experiences that focus on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families. This part-time position (25 hours a week) starts at $12/hr. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Under the supervision of the Child Development Center Director at ASYMCA-El Paso, the Assistant Teacher will have the following responsibilities, including, but not limited to: Assisting teachers in developing and preparing plans outlining learning experiences and activities for a group of children. Implementing the program to meet the needs, special interests and capabilities of children and in accordance with the teacher’s lesson plan. Ensuring children's safety and knowing how to carry out emergency procedures when needed. Attending parent-child events as necessary. Providing a neat, clean environment for all children, including snack/kitchen area, and monitoring children’s activities to ensure that children clean up after themselves. Attending staff meetings and in-service training to meet the Continuing Education requirements established by the licensing office. Communicating with parents through the lead teacher and as required by the CDC Director. Assisting with children during transitional times and changes in the daily schedule. Working cooperatively with all staff, communicating directly and avoiding gossip between employees. Interacting with the children at all times, especially during snack time, group activity time and outdoor time. Maintaining a clean, sanitary, and attractive room, including shelves, closets and drawers. Observing behavior of children and discussing unusual behaviors with the teacher or CDC Director. Demonstrating flexibility to move from one group of children to another when requested. Participating in special events, field trips and special programs. Becoming familiar with state regulations and inspections procedures, as well as policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Supporting the program goals of the ASYMCA. Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 18 years of age .
  • Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the Agency’s insurance carrier standards.

Nice To Haves

  • AA in ECE, ECD, Education & Teaching or CDA preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred .
  • Previous experience planning, organizing, and implementing age- and developmentally-appropriate activities.
  • Previous experience working with diverse groups and building genuine relationships across backgrounds.
  • Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration of this position.
