About The Position

The Child Development Assistant (Part-Time) position involves assisting in the instruction, health, and safety of young children aged 0 to 60 months enrolled in the Child Development Center programs. The role includes supporting the Child Development Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate programs, supervising activities, maintaining a safe environment, and performing general housekeeping duties. The position requires engagement with children in various activities and documentation of their growth and development.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to the completion of high school supplemented by six (6) units of college-level coursework in early childhood education or child development.
  • Six (6) months of experience working in a licensed child development program assisting in the teaching of infants or preschoolers.
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Child Development Assistant Permit.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a pediatric C.P.R. Certificate and First Aid Certificate.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Mandated Child Abuse Reporter Certificate.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Food Handlers permit if required.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Child Development Teacher Permit or an AA in ECE/CD or related field.
  • Knowledge and experience in implementing developmentally appropriate practices for preschool-aged children for at least one (1) year.
  • Experience implementing DRDP or a similar assessment tool.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of developmentally appropriate programs for assigned children.
  • Supervise indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring adherence to health and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, healthy, safe, and orderly environment.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties such as laundry and cleaning snack preparation areas.
  • Assist with daily activities including toileting, diaper changing, and health checks.
  • Supervise and feed children during snack and mealtime activities.
  • Prepare and distribute light snacks to classrooms.
  • Provide a quiet atmosphere for children to sleep.
  • Prepare children for special events.
  • Observe and document each child's growth and development.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports in accordance with program and state requirements.
  • Provide feedback regarding observations to the Child Development Teacher.

Benefits

  • Hourly salary range of $18.60 - $26.68.
  • Part-time classified position with a work schedule of Monday - Thursday 8:00am - 11:45am & Friday 8:00am - 12:00pm.
  • Work days/year: 222.
