About The Position

The Columbia On-call Child Care Worker is responsible for supporting the development, safety, and well-being of children in our care during events such as Mom’s Bible Study (MBS), Mom Community (MOMCO), Wednesday’s choir practice, and other special events at Columbia Church. The ideal candidate will be described as compassionate, dependable, and enthusiastic about creating a nurturing environment that engages children in age-appropriate activities and fosters positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Availability to pass a background check.
  • Be a US citizen, permanent US resident, or authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willingness and availability to be trained on Child Care and Development topics in person and virtually.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children in a licensed facility or similar setting.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate practices.
  • Strong communication skills with children, parents, and coworkers.
  • Shows strong awareness of and appreciation for cultural differences, adapting communication and behavior accordingly.
  • Understanding of church environments and a commitment to supporting child ministry goals.
  • Ability to lift 30+ pounds and actively engage with children on their level (e.g., sitting, bending, kneeling).

Responsibilities

  • Warmly welcome new and returning children.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety of children at all times.
  • Implement engaging activities that promote physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development by using the church’s curriculum.
  • Assist children with daily routines, including meals, hygiene, rest, and play.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and stimulating classroom or play area.
  • Adhere to all applicable health, safety, and licensing regulations and policies.
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure a positive and cohesive work environment.
  • Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development sessions.
