About The Position

Develop age-appropriate programs and care for infants through elementary-aged children.

Requirements

  • Must have completed the 9th grade.
  • Must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
  • Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • This position is required to do light to moderate physical work and must be able to lift 20 pounds.
  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to interact with children.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors.  This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others’ property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.  Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every donor, contact and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children preferred.
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the care of children in the Corps nursery or gym during various activities.
  • Assist to plan age-appropriate programs for toddlers, pre-school, and elementary aged children.
  • Recommend to the Corps Officer appropriate games, toys, books, and resources that will enable a wholesome experience for children.
  • Attend training that will ensure the proper care and safety of children, i.e., CPR, First Aid, Safe from Harm.
  • Maintain adequate supply of resource materials to administer the program.
  • Promote participation of parents and other trained helpers.
  • Facilitate training, as necessary, for helpers in the childcare program.
  • All other duties as assigned.
