About The Position

The Child Care Teacher at the University of Minnesota Crookston is responsible for overseeing and guiding the development of infants in a safe and inclusive learning environment. This role involves creating and implementing daily lesson plans that promote the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth of children, while maintaining compliance with child care licensing standards. The teacher will also establish effective communication with families regarding their child's progress and needs, and participate in ongoing professional development to support the program's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • A combination of education and work/intern experience that meets State of MN State Human Services Licensing Act requirements for Child Care Centers.
  • Compliance with Rule 11 of the State Human Services Licensing Act (background study & reference check).
  • First Aid training for child care providers.
  • Current certification in CPR.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience working with infants/toddlers/pre-school children.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Development or related field.
  • Good human relations skills.
  • Good interpersonal, written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain an inclusive, professional, and safe learning space for children of all backgrounds, identities, abilities, and developmental stages in compliance with MN DHS licensing.
  • Plan and execute a consistent daily visible schedule of routines and activities.
  • Conduct daily checks of the environment; assign, monitor, and follow up on the health and safety of the children and ensure supervision is within sight and sound as per MN DHS Licensing.
  • Maintain and secure the confidentiality of information and records regarding staff, children, and families.
  • Participate in ongoing reflection on evaluation of the program and personal professional development.
  • Plan and implement emergent curriculum for children in a developmentally appropriate and inclusive environment.
  • Use small groups, reflective practice, and observations when planning and implementing learning experiences.
  • Support the development of the child's role as an integral member of their learning community.
  • Prepare materials required for daily instruction and classroom environment for the children.
  • Maintain open verbal and written communication with parents regarding child development and behavior issues.
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with fellow teachers and the Program Director.
  • Assess the individual children's learning and development and maintain accurate documentation.
