About The Position

The Child Care Teacher at VCU Health System is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing creative and adaptive lesson plans for children aged six weeks to six years. Utilizing the Reggio education approach, the teacher creates a safe and engaging environment that promotes children's growth and self-esteem. This role involves effective communication with parents and team members, supporting parents in their parenting goals, and ensuring a fun and exploratory learning process for children.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 40 hours of coursework in early childhood education or related field required.
  • Previous experience working with children ages 6 weeks to 6 years required.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate preferred.
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience specifically working with children 6 weeks to 2 years old preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in a care center environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Reggio philosophical approach to education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and implement child-centered lesson plans.
  • Provide a safe and engaging environment for children aged six weeks to six years.
  • Ensure interactions with children support their self-esteem and promote growth and development.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with parents and team members.
  • Support parents in achieving their parenting goals.
  • Document children's daily progress and activities and prepare reports for parents.
  • Supervise teacher aides and volunteers assigned to the classroom.
  • Prepare ongoing assessments and documentation regarding children and their activities.
  • Ensure the classroom is clean, neat, and free of health hazards.
  • Prepare the environment for classroom activities, including weekends and evenings.
