About The Position

The Child Care Support Staff position supports the mission of the International Institute by providing safe, nurturing, and culturally responsive care for the children of adult learners participating in Institute classes and services. This role ensures children are engaged in a structured, inclusive, and child-friendly environment so parents can fully participate in their educational programs. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals interested in early childhood education, social work, education, or community-based services who are passionate about supporting diverse families. This position is a temporary part-time, not to exceed 10 hours/week through May 30, 2026.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in childcare, babysitting, youth programs, or early childhood settings required.
  • Ability to work patiently and effectively with children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional, courteous demeanor and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and supervisory guidance.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Reliable, responsible, and committed to excellence.
  • Availability consistent with program needs; hours not to exceed 10 per week without supervisor authorization.
  • Ability to pass a standard background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Current student or recent graduate of an accredited Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Social Work program.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (required within two weeks of start date).

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervised care for children on site while parents attend English or other Agency classes.
  • Lead and assist with age-appropriate educational and recreational activities such as story time, arts and crafts, games, and early literacy activities.
  • Support daily routines including snack time, clean-up, and classroom organization.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming childcare environment in accordance with Institute policies and safety guidelines.
  • Participate in relevant staff meetings, trainings, and cultural competency workshops.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive space for children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Communicate concerns, observations, or incidents promptly to supervising staff.
  • Assist with child check-in and check-out procedures to ensure safety and accountability.
  • Complete occasional administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented, responsive, and client-centered work environment.
  • Represent the organization's mission, programs, and services in a positive and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support successful program operations.
