About The Position

DHHS Division of Public Health Licensing is seeking a Child Care Licensing Supervisor to lead and develop the Child Care team in Omaha. In this role you will: Provide direct supervision to a team of 9 Child Care Inspection Specialists to ensure consistency, reliability, and validity in applying licensing requirements. Make recommendations for new hires and provides orientation to the program and job training. Plan, assign, and monitor all work activities to ensure established goals and statutory requirements are met. Monitor, evaluate worker performance and complete all employee evaluations and maintain all necessary documentation as required. Maintain relevant data to ensure program and employee goals are met. Review and evaluate licensing inspections and investigation reports to ensure established standards are met and regulations are being evaluated and applied accurately. Update and inform Program Manager on current status of inspections, investigations, and other pertinent issues related to licensing functions. Make recommendations for negative and disciplinary actions to be initiated in accordance with Child Care Licensing statutes, rules, and regulations. Work collaboratively with Program staff and Legal to ensure all required information for disciplines is available and completed accurately. Prepare written summaries and letters to licensees and applicants as needed. Represent the program at internal and external stakeholders meetings. Ongoing evaluation of regulations for consistent program interpretation as well as for identification of regulation revisions. Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including applicants, licensees, State/Local Fire and Health Inspectors, Nebraska Department of Education, and child care advocacy groups. Testify at Administrative hearings when necessary following an appeal for a disciplinary action.

Requirements

  • Post high school coursework/training in: early child learning, education, or child development and experience in a human or social service organization with responsibility for determining the nature or level of services or assistance applicants or clients need or are eligible for; assessing programs, services, or operations for compliance with social, health safety, or licensure requirements.
  • Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in education, human development and the family, social/behavioral sciences, or related field.
  • Two years' experience in regulation interpretation, program evaluation, determining compliance with standards, or evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of a program.
  • At least two years' experience supervising staff which includes leading, coordinating, directing, monitoring and evaluating others.
