About The Position

The Childcare Counselor is responsible for the direct supervision and monitoring of youth in a non–secure setting. The Childcare counselor must ensure the day-to-day safety and security of the residents. Direct transport of residents going to court, MHS & other appointments designated by Manager, Director & ACS administrative personnel.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 3 years’ relevant experience
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must be able to solve crisis situations in a therapeutic manner.
  • Complete the Safety Crisis Management training satisfactorily.
  • Must be able to use a computer and able to learn software programs.
  • The Childcare Counselor needs to be able to speak, read and write fluently in the English language.
  • The Childcare Counselor must be able to write in the English language using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.
  • An employee in this position is regularly required to stand; walk, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; talk and listen, and taste or smell.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk.
  • The employee is occasionally required to keep balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The Childcare Counselor may frequently lift 0-25 lbs., occasionally lift 25-50 lbs., and rarely lift over 50 lbs.
  • The Childcare Counselor may frequently push/pull 0-25 lbs. of force, occasionally push/pull 26-45 lbs. force, and rarely push/pull over 45 lbs.
  • The Childcare Counselor may sit 50-60% of the working day.
  • The Childcare Counselor may stand 10-20% of the working day.
  • The Childcare Counselor may walk 10-20% of the working day.
  • The Childcare Counselor may occasionally stoop. This is defined as bending body downward by bending spine at the waist.
  • The Childcare Counselor may occasionally kneel. This is defined as bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s).
  • The Childcare Counselor may occasionally crouch. This is defined as bending body downward and forward by bending spine and legs.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that children are provided with a clean and safe environment.
  • Transport residents to activities
  • Monitor as needed.
  • Monitor residents throughout shift by ensuring residents are always in sight.
  • Inform Residence Manager of any problems.
  • Must be able to solve crisis situations in a therapeutic manner.
  • Complete the Safety Crisis Management training satisfactorily.
  • Manage the transportation of youth to and from court and all other destinations.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and yearly trainings as designated.
  • Prepare regular written reports, in the form of Logs and Critical Incident Reports.
  • Perform all necessary activities assigned to further the agency’s mission.
