About The Position

At A to Z Building Blocks, our kitchen plays a vital role in supporting early childhood education. Nutritious, well-prepared meals fuel learning, growth, and development for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. We are seeking a highly organized, dependable culinary professional who thrives working independently, understands inventory analytics, and takes pride in maintaining a clean, efficient kitchen.

Requirements

• 2+ years cook, line cook, prep cook, or food service experience preferred
• Ability to cook for large groups efficiently
• Strong organizational skills and time management
• Experience with inventory management, budgeting, and purchasing analytics
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Knowledge of sanitation standards and food safety procedures
• Food Handler Permit (or ability to obtain quickly)
• Must pass background clearance
• Must be 21 years of age or older (required to drive our bus)
• Valid driver’s license
• Clean driving record
• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs
• Move efficiently throughout the kitchen

Responsibilities

• Prepare daily meals and snacks using standardized recipes and a planned menu
• Set up workstations with ingredients and cooking equipment
• Chop, peel, prep, and cook using oven and stovetop
• Monitor food quality, temperature, and presentation
• Maintain a sanitized, organized, and inspection-ready kitchen
• Monitor inventory levels and maintain accurate tracking systems
• Complete weekly grocery shopping with strong budgeting oversight
• Maintain and manage food budgets with cost-control accountability
• Use purchasing analytics to reduce waste and improve efficiency
• Analyze inventory trends to prevent shortages and over-ordering
• Hand wash dishes, cookware, and utensils
• Drive our school bus during the school year to assist with child transportation
