About The Position

To provide a safe, quality child care center for children entering district care. The program goal is to provide developmentally appropriate care and activities for infants and toddlers in a kind, encouraging, and empathetic manner.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with infants and toddlers with warmth, calm nature, and a pace appropriate for infants and toddlers.
  • Ability to meet the social-emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual infants and toddlers.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with children, colleagues, staff, children and parents.
  • General knowledge of nutrition, health, and first aid.
  • Willingness to accept supervision.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree with major in early childhood education, child development, OR Child Development Associate Credential related to infant/toddler care OR at least two years full-time experience with at least one year as a teacher in a certified center caring for birth to 5-year-old children.
  • Thorough understanding of infant and toddler growth and development and appropriate programming for infants and toddlers.
  • Current first aid and infant/child CPR certification within 3 months.
  • Obtain Food Handler’s card within 15 business days.
  • Completion of all required district trainings.
  • Central Background Registry preferred.
  • Physical capability of lifting, bending, twisting, while holding up to 50 pounds.
  • Work within the guidelines of the district’s communicable disease control plan (blood borne pathogens).
  • Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals as identified in the district MSDS sheets.
  • Physical ability to adhere to OSHA and district safety regulations.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Physical ability to endure hand washing several times each hour.
  • Walk outside at least ¼ of a mile most days to include bad weather.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the daily operation of the program.
  • Ensure the care, safety, and well-being of all children in the center.
  • Develop staff schedules and supervise the activities of staff with children.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the center’s program of activities.
  • Ensure the appropriateness of program activities according to the age, interests, and developmental level of the children.
  • Refer to and align practices to Department of Early Learning and Care (DELC) rules and all other regulations applicable to the safe operation of child care centers.
  • Ensure that the cleanliness of the center is maintained daily.
  • Maintain constant interaction between students, staff, parents, and children.
  • Understand CACFP regulations, requirements, and procedures.
  • Oversee meal production.
  • Complete daily record keeping including but not limited to attendance and daily activities.
  • Participate each year in training related to child development and care.
  • For students who have a child or children in district care, involve student parents to the greatest extent possible in center operation.
  • Coordinate and provide staff meeting discussions and trainings.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
