About The Position

The position reports to the Executive Director of the Faculty Student Association of Hudson Valley Community College, Inc. (FSA) and performs the following duties:

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field with a plan of study leading to a Bachelor’s Degree or a New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential.
  • Minimum two years full time teaching experience and two years supervisory experience as a child care director or assistant director in a medium to large center. Both employment experience requirements must have been met in child day care setting as described in New York State Child Day Care Center Regulations, Part 418-1.13g.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to successfully coordinate and administer all areas of a comprehensive early child care development program, to include curriculum development, licensing and accreditation, personnel management, budget development and administration and grant procurement and administration.
  • Must be able to interact positively with children, parents, staff and the College community.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Completed application form and current resume.
  • Minimum of three professional and three personal references.
  • Official college transcript.
  • Clearance through the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and maltreatment, a crime conviction statement and required fingerprints.
  • Cover letter and resume, clearly labeled with “Viking Child Care Center Director”.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field is strongly preferred.
  • Proven fundraising success is preferred.
  • Knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans the annual calendar for the Center.
  • Enforces all health, safety and licensing regulations.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Schedules and leads monthly staff meetings.
  • Plans and attends meetings of the Child Care Advisory Committee (if active).
  • Evaluates the performance of the Center.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the FSA Executive Director.
  • Insures compliance with all New York State Office of Children and Family Services Child Day Care Center Regulations.
  • Prepares re-licensing applications as required.
  • Insures compliance with all National Association of Education of Young Children curriculum and QualityStarsNY standards as applicable.
  • Completes all annual reports for NAEYC and QualityStarsNY as applicable.
  • Prepares re-accreditation applications as required.
  • Maintains necessary records and ensures compliance for continued participation in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Prepares cycle menus in compliance with CACFP requirements and coordinates daily meal schedules with FSA Foodservice Manager.
  • Reviews curriculum goals and content for Infant, Toddler and Preschool Programs as established by teachers.
  • Provides opportunities for parent participation in established programs.
  • Schedules staff training in coordination with teachers, as required by OCFS regulations.
  • Encourages staff to participate in Professional Development programs beyond mandated requirements.
  • Reviews and updates Center documentation and procedures as necessary.
  • Performs any required daily duties where needed in case of staff absences.
  • Interviews prospective families and educates on center policies, procedures, practices, curriculum, schedule and fees.
  • Maintains positive relationships with all parents and encourages family involvement.
  • Promotes positive attitude towards student-parents’ academic achievement.
  • Promotes parents’ active involvement in Center programs and activities.
  • Acts as a liaison between parents and campus and community resources.
  • Prepares and administers annual budget.
  • Monitors food budget continuously and obtains food items for meal program.
  • Prepares grant applications and administers grant funds received.
  • Prepares county and other agency reimbursement contracts.
  • Prepares parent contracts.
  • Collects parent fees and coordinates billings and maintenance of accounts receivable with FSA Associate Director.
  • Coordinates billings of county and other agency accounts receivable with Associate Director.
  • Prepares reports as required for New York State Office of Children and Family Services, CACFP, counties and other agencies.
  • Processes purchase orders and forwards necessary supporting paperwork to the FSA Business Office in a timely manner.
  • Prepares other financial reports as required by the FSA Executive Director.
  • Prepares annual SUNY grant application.
  • Responds to Requests for Proposal from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
  • Investigates and solicits federal, state and private sector grant opportunities.
  • Prepares annual fundraising event schedule and develops materials to support fundraising efforts.
  • Reconciles fundraising balances with FSA Associate Director.
  • Publicizes fundraising events through campus and community media.
  • Promotes the Center through on-campus publication and various off-campus media.
  • Develops and revises various Center publications.
  • Develops good community relationships and projects positive image of the Center.
  • Recruits, selects, trains and supervises Center staff.
  • Conducts new staff orientations.
  • Maintains personnel records as required by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
  • Reviews and signs all staff timesheets and approves all leave requests.
  • Manages staff schedules to allow for planning time, breaks, and absences.
  • Prepares teacher evaluations.
  • Reviews intern evaluations.
  • Mentors staff to resolve any personnel conflicts or issues.
  • Maintains inventory records for indoor and outdoor equipment.
  • Plans for equipment replacements.
  • Maintains neat, clean and safe environment for children in the Center.
