Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, (BSN) and MSN, MBA or Masters in Nursing Specialty degree is required with Masters in Nursing preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 2-5 years of hospital experience in specialty with 3-5 years of management experience.
  • Current licensure by the Indiana State Board of Nurses’ Registration and Nursing Education as an active Registered Nurse.

  • Additional ANCP Leadership certification and clinical specialty certification encouraged.
  • Computer skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains responsibility and accountability for effective fiscal management of department including: operating expenses, human resource allocation, capital expenditure, revenue maximization, and financial statement analysis.
  • Evaluates use of products and services for appropriateness and cost/benefit to meet patient care needs and eliminates waste within department and empowers associates to do the same.
  • Monitors staff utilization and actively manages work redesign for fiscal accountability to budget.
  • Promotes cost effective methods for staff education, competency testing, and utilization of supplies and equipment.
  • Accountable and responsible for Quality Assessment and Improvement in department.
  • Takes responsibility for quality activities such as: value based purchasing, meaningful use, regulatory measures, work redesign, nurse sensitive indicators, patient satisfaction scores, and application of Just Culture and HIPPA.
  • Develops formal QA&I plan and monitors trends.
  • Assures implementation of QA&I concepts in the evaluation of departmental processes.
  • Supports Hospital and Nursing mission and values statements, strategic plan and vision, and department philosophy to streamline processes and enhance the patient experience.
  • Develops, administers and evaluates department goals and objectives consistent with hospital goals and objectives and the nursing process.
  • Administers hospital policies and procedures.
  • Develops, administers and evaluates department policies and procedures which are consistent with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Assures achievement of patient satisfaction for the hospital and department(s) through active development and participation in the practices of rounding, timely response to patient and staff needs, service recovery, and relationship based care.
  • Timely processing and follow-up on event notifications to staff and patient/family/healthcare representative as appropriate.
  • Sets expectations for a therapeutic environment addressing noise reductions, appropriate use of social media, and appropriate integration of students and their programs.
  • Monitors and responds to trending in patient satisfaction scores.
  • Assures competency of staff and self.
  • Hires top talent, matching organization needs with appropriate skills.
  • Timely completion of performance appraisals within 90 days of due date.
  • Ensures compliance to infection control/universal precaution standards, hazardous materials management, disaster/fire safety management, and administration of safety policy and procedures (such as event notification, safe patient mobilization, and fall prevention.)
  • Utilizes the event notification system for reports and near misses and is proactive in design, implementation, and evaluations of system change.
  • Demonstrates competency in the American Organization of Nurse Executives skills of communication and relationship-building, knowledge of the health care environment, Leadership, Professionalism, and business skills.
  • Contributes to the profession of nursing by participating in professional organizations, engaging in research, disseminating work, and contributing to legislative efforts.
  • Serves as a leader, consultant, career counselor, mentor, and change agent in advancing the practice of nursing among nurses and across organization to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Professional development of self and staff including mentorship and career counseling to aspiring clinicians and leaders.
  • Ensures personal and departmental compliance to hospital-wide minimum standards of performance.
  • Demonstrates basic Information Management and Technology competencies in e-mail, work processing spreadsheet, internet programs, etc.
  • Meets Hospital identified customer service standards; addresses ethical issues, and promotes commitment to co-workers.
  • Exhibits excellent guest relations to patients, visitors, physicians and coworkers; shows courtesy, compassion and respect; conforms to Service Excellence requirements.
  • This position requires effective, timely communication and interaction with the public, contacts from other hospitals, schools and/or other departments.
  • Facilitates teamwork intra and interdepartmentally.
  • Removes barriers that impede service to the customer across and within department(s).
