Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, mental health care, education, criminal justice or other closely related area AND experience performing case management responsibilities in protective services, alcohol/drug abuse, juvenile justice probation, counseling or social services delivery.
  • Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation is required.
  • Travel for face-to-face visits with children, families, service providers, and other work related.
  • Participate in On-call rotation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Child and Family Specialist with DHHS in Nebraska.
  • Experience as a CFS specialist currently or recently and have had all training.
  • At least one year demonstrated experience providing case management within Child protection Services, preferably in Nebraska, two or more years strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Family Assessment and Engagement, Family Centered Practice and Safety Organized practice, with experience training, coaching, and providing technical direction to others regarding these programs, strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for each child's safety, permanency, and well-being.
  • Respect the individuality of each child and family serviced. Respect each child's family and culture.
  • Implement family-centered practice principles into case management to ensure the inclusion of children and families in the decision-making processes that impact their lives.
  • Promote normalcy in the lives of children in care.
  • Commit to evidence-based and promising family-centered casework practices that utilize a least-restrictive approach for children and families.
  • Coordinates efforts of formal and informal resources to ensure that the needs of children, youth and families are being met in the most efficient way.
  • Develop training plans in collaboration of CFS Supervisor and Specialist based on individualized needs of the Specialist.
  • Provide coaching and training to trainees and current CFS Specialist.
  • Conduct monthly check in group meetings with new CFS specialists and many other duties as required.
  • Assist in retention efforts to prevent CFS Specialist turnover which impacts children and families served.
  • Help foster relationships with and educate community stakeholders to ensure all parties understand CFS's role in child protection and facilitate successful collaboration to case closure.
