About The Position

The CFS Learning and Development Internship offers hands-on experience designing, developing, and supporting training initiatives for Children and Family Services programs, with a focus on Child Protective Services (CPS) and Adult Protective Services (APS). This project-based internship is ideal for students who are passionate about teaching, adult learning, coaching, mentoring, and curriculum development. Interns will contribute directly to improving training quality for frontline staff and will gain experience in instructional design, content creation, research, and facilitation. Onsite Locations Available: Omaha, Lincoln, Columbus, or Kearney

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution) OR recently graduated (within one year) from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution).

  • Undergraduate student in Education, Training & Development, Human Resources, Social Sciences (Psychology, Sociology, Social Work), Criminal Justice, Business, or related fields.
  • Graduate-level students (Master’s) are strongly encouraged to apply and may be especially well suited for the role.
  • Individuals who thrive in roles involving: Teaching or instruction Coaching and mentoring Curriculum or content development Adult learning principles Creative problem-solving and research
  • Strong communication and writing skills

Responsibilities

  • Designing training content specifically for CPS and APS programs.
  • Creating new training courses from the ground up based on identified needs.
  • Updating or modifying existing training materials and curricula.
  • Developing supporting materials and resources for virtual and in-person training.
  • Assisting with or observing virtual and/or face-to-face training sessions.
  • Creating self-paced, asynchronous learning modules.
  • Conducting research on best practices in adult learning and recommending ways to incorporate these strategies into DHHS training programs.
  • Collaborating with Learning & Development team members from backgrounds such as Social Work, Education, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Human Resources, Business, and Sociology.
