The Chief Welding Engineer performs work with minimal supervision at a senior level requiring advanced understanding of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field of welding. The Chief Welding Engineer will be the program owner of the Y-12 Welding Program and have the final say in all issues regarding the Y-12 Welding Program and associated requirements. Requires a working knowledge of other related disciplines and how those disciplines interface with existing systems. Must be able to effectively represent Y-12 in discussing complex issues with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB). An emphasis on safe and secure plant operations is paramount. The Chief Welding Engineer primarily performs work requiring extensive knowledge of welding science and national consensus welding codes and standards (AWS D1.2, ASME B31, ASME Section IX) acquired by a combination of specialized intellectual instruction and experience. The Chief Welding Engineer will use advanced knowledge to analyze, interpret, and justify technical decisions from multiple variables, facts, or circumstances.
