About The Position

The Chief Steward at Marriott International, Inc. is responsible for managing the daily kitchen utility operations and staff at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. This role encompasses overseeing dish room operations, night cleaning, back dock cleaning and maintenance, banquet plating, and food running. The Chief Steward supervises kitchen employees who are not directly engaged in cooking, such as dishwashers and kitchen helpers, and is dedicated to continually improving guest and employee satisfaction while adhering to the operating budget. The position requires a strong focus on managing day-to-day operations, which includes ordering and managing necessary supplies, ensuring that workers have the required tools and uniforms, and scheduling events and activities. The Chief Steward is also responsible for monitoring the inflow of ordered materials, conducting inventories of china, glass, silver, food, equipment, and liquor, and ensuring compliance with food handling and sanitation standards. This role involves inspecting supplies and work areas to ensure efficient service and adherence to standards, as well as investigating employee accidents and enforcing proper cleaning routines. In addition to operational management, the Chief Steward leads the kitchen team by utilizing interpersonal and communication skills to influence and encourage others. This includes supervising employees, managing daily operations, and providing leadership and direction to achieve departmental goals. The Chief Steward is expected to celebrate team successes, communicate performance expectations, and maintain open relationships with employees. Furthermore, the role involves ensuring exceptional customer service by managing day-to-day operations and emphasizing guest satisfaction during departmental meetings. The Chief Steward also plays a crucial role in human resource activities, providing guidance and direction to subordinates, recruiting and training employees, and ensuring that property policies are administered fairly and consistently. This position is vital in maintaining the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the kitchen operations, contributing to the success of the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.
