About The Position

The Chief Sonographer leads and manages a team of diagnostic ultrasound sonographers who provide care for pediatric and perinatal patients.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of one of the following; at least two (2) years in Allied Health Educational Program and one (1) year on-the-job training in ultrasonography, or completion of an approved ultrasonography educational program.
  • Must possess a current/valid certification in diagnostic ultrasound.
  • Maintain or be eligible for certification the American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
  • Completion of a course in ultrasonic technology.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • At least 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Experience Industry: Healthcare

Nice To Haves

  • Fetal Echo Certification is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and develop a team of diagnostic ultrasound sonographers serving pediatric and perinatal patients.
  • Coordinate with physicians and healthcare staff to ensure high‑quality, comprehensive patient care.
  • Prepare and educate patients for ultrasound procedures, obtain necessary consents, and support physicians during ultrasound‑guided interventions.
  • Perform and document diagnostic ultrasound exams, maintain patient records, and ensure confidentiality and compliance with OSHA and universal precautions.
  • Manage daily operations, including workflow, scheduling, inventory, equipment maintenance, and adherence to AIUM guidelines.
  • Oversee coding, billing documentation, and communication of additional services requiring authorization.
  • Maintain archives of imaging studies and ensure proper data management.
  • Lead onboarding, participate in hiring, and assist with annual performance reviews for sonographers.
  • Foster effective working relationships and provide care in a respectful, ethical, and non‑judgmental manner.
  • Participate in ongoing education, staff development, and other duties as assigned.
