About The Position

The Los Angeles County Probation is recruiting highly motivated and career-minded individuals to fill the position of Chief Research Analyst, Behavioral Sciences. This role involves planning, initiating, and developing studies of department operations, consulting on existing and proposed research projects, and establishing liaisons with various agencies regarding research activities. The Chief Research Analyst will also conceive and promote special research projects, evaluate information from studies, and participate in policy discussions based on research data compiled.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. or other doctoral degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in a field of the behavioral or social sciences.
  • Two years' full-time post doctorate research experience including responsibility for the design, evaluation and implementation of research projects in a behavioral or social science field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using specialized statistical research software to analyze trend and cross-sectional data, conduct predictive analytics, develop qualitative and quantitative methods and research data management techniques.
  • Experience in research publications, peer review publications in public administration, behavioral sciences, or social sciences, and presenting research data to various target audiences.
  • Experience in designing and conducting complex research and evaluation projects, focusing on community driven, juvenile and adult justice, and/or closely related or similar programs.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with non-technical partners who have varying levels of experience with data and evidence-based practices.
  • Experience supervising and managing the work of a team of researchers, prioritizing and assigning multiple projects, and working proactively to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, initiates and develops studies of department operations.
  • Consults and advises on both existing and proposed research projects and incorporates methods of evaluation vital for measures of efficiency.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with County departments, other government agencies and community agencies regarding research activities.
  • Conceives, develops and promotes special research projects; negotiates with funding agencies for financial support.
  • Evaluates information secured through studies and consultations and recommends new and revised programs.
  • Develops and recommends standards for evaluating programs and for preparing research reports.
  • Participates in policy discussions based on research studies and data compiled.
