The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is currently seeking a qualified candidate to become our Chief Regional Coordinator! The Chief Regional Coordinator will plan, oversee, and manage all aspects of regional operations, including programmatic, fiscal, personnel, and day‑to‑day activities. This role provides direct supervision to regional staff such as the Response and Recovery Officer, Hazardous Materials Officer, All‑Hazards Planner, and Search and Rescue Specialist. The Coordinator serves as the regional subject matter expert and primary point of contact, maintaining strong partnerships with local jurisdictions and regional, state, federal, and non‑governmental organizations while ensuring access to VDEM services and support. This position acts as the first level of response during regional incidents and supports recovery operations. The Coordinator ensures continuous 24/7/365 situational awareness for emerging or active threats, incidents, or disasters, both natural and human‑caused. Additional responsibilities include serving as a regional spokesperson, keeping regional plans current, and ensuring effective use of emergency preparedness grant funding. This role includes emergency response duties; you must be able to reach the region within 30 minutes. All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, and natural or man-made disasters/events as directed. This may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee’s official EWP.
