The Chief Radiation Therapy Technologist plays a key leadership role in ensuring the highest standards of technical excellence, patient care, and departmental operations within the Radiation Oncology Department. Under the general direction of the Clinical Director, Chief of Clinical Physics, and Medical Director, you will oversee daily clinical operations across external beam treatments, CT/MR simulation, and brachytherapy (if applicable). As a working Chief Therapist, you will provide both hands-on clinical expertise and strong leadership to a dedicated team of radiation therapists and student trainees. You will supervise treatment delivery, patient scheduling, equipment operations, and the performance of complex therapeutic procedures in accordance with physician prescriptions. In this role, you will guide the development and monitoring of quality assurance programs, collaborate closely with treatment planning teams, and ensure efficient workflow across all technical services. You will also support essential administrative functions, including performance improvement initiatives, coordination with billing teams, chart rounds, and other operational responsibilities that contribute to a safe, high-quality patient experience. Requirements

  • ARRT License
  • CRT License
  • 5 or more years radiation therapy experience
  • BLS/CPR from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Skill in working with different types of treatment machines such as MR Scanner, CT Scanner, HDR units and Linear Accelerators and ability to recognize when hazardous conditions may exist.
  • Ability to deal with the pressures of a critical care area.
  • Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload, machine breakdowns, heavy patient volume and emergency cases.
  • Ability to lift cerrobend blocks weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Knowledge of basic physics as applicable to radiation therapy.
  • Skill in communicating various technical aspects of radiation therapy at a level understood by patients.
  • Ability to speak on a one-to-one basis using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain information, explain treatment procedures, and to clearly convey information to medical staff, patients, and administrators.
  • Knowledge of a variety of treatment techniques to assist physicians in treatment planning to ensure optimum treatment is given to all patients.
  • Skill in recognizing and reporting any adverse patient therapy reactions.
  • Skill in reading documents written with medical terminology and ability to read and implement computer-generated physics treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing procedures.
  • Working knowledge of University procedures regarding isolation of immuno-suppressed patients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians and physicists.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification and California State License in Radiation Therapy required.
  • Ability to appropriately interact with and provide special assistance to various age groups of patients, i.e., pediatric and geriatric patients.
  • Knowledge of required response to internal and external disaster procedures as well as fire and life safety.
