The Chief Psychiatrist participates in recruitment, hiring, and orientation of new psychiatrists; plans and directs the psychiatric and mental health services programs in a correctional institution; participates in program development, planning, standards, and evaluation. This position is located at Wasco State Prison (WSP) in Kern County and is a permanent, full-time role. The position is subject to the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025), which requires a base salary reduction of 4.62 percent and provides 8 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months. A pay differential of 15% of monthly base pay is available for employees providing direct patient care more than 50% of the pay period. Additional recruitment and retention bonuses may be available for eligible candidates.
