POSITION SUMMARY: The Chief Program Officer (CPO) is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for overseeing organizational operations, ensuring program excellence, and translating strategy into effective execution. The CPO partners closely with the CEO and leadership team to advance the mission, achieve contractual outcomes, and build a high-performing, innovative organization. In addition to the duties and requirements listed below, YFA expects employees to be committed to incorporating principles of trauma-informed care in all areas of service delivery. Commitment to these principles is demonstrated through active participation in agency-required training, use of trauma-informed practices, and understanding that trauma-informed environments require cultural sensitivity and an emphasis on a safe and respectful environment for all.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in a Behavioral Health filed, or a related field required
  • Clinical License required (LCSW, LMHC, LMFT)
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, behavioral health, or human services organization.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing complex operations, multiple programs, and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven success in strategic planning, operational execution, and performance management.
  • Position requires employee to work with computers daily.
  • Ability to travel in multi-county areas frequently.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds, bend, stand or sit for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to strategy and decision-making.
  • Oversee daily operations across programs to ensure efficiency and mission alignment.
  • Develop and improve operational policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Lead strategic planning and translate goals into actionable plans.
  • Monitor progress toward strategic objectives and adjust as needed.
  • Partner with executive leadership to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Establish systems to track program performance and operational outcomes.
  • Use data to guide decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting to leadership and funders.
  • Provide executive oversight of program development and expansion.
  • Ensure programs remain effective, compliant, and financially sustainable.
  • Oversee performance related to grants and contracts to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Align operations with budget and contractual requirements.
  • Support strong relationships with funders and stakeholders.
  • Develop leaders through coaching and professional growth opportunities.
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, and staff engagement.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Implement process and technology improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Encourage creative problem-solving across the organization.
