About The Position

This position is located in the Development Center Division of the Development Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of the Development Center Manager.  An employee in this classification performs work requiring knowledge and skills acquired prior to assuming the position.  Essential job functions include:  reviewing and evaluating plans and specifications for compliance with City building and zoning codes and ordinances; assisting the public by providing technical information and with construction permit processes; writing technical reports or correspondence pertaining to project assignments; and establishing work priorities of subordinate staff.  Employees in this classification primarily function independently, with work products and project status subject to review by conferences, staff reports, and observations.  The position requires considerable contact with contractors, citizens, and City employees in the interpretation of City codes, ordinances, and policies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and skill in applying general administrative and management techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of relevant building, zoning, engineering and land use codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Skill in supervising the activities of a professional, technical and clerical staff.
  • Skill in interpreting and evaluating plans, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Skill in prioritizing work assignments.
  • Skill in determining and locating appropriate information sources.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Skill in making logical inferences and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting legal descriptions.
  • Skill in recording information accurately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Employee must possess a current ICC Building Plans Examiner certification prior to assuming the position.
