About The Position

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) plays a pivotal leadership role within the organization, responsible for overseeing, developing, and implementing critical business strategies while managing the day-to-day operations of the facility. The COO's primary focus is to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient-centered care, fostering a safe, efficient, and high-quality environment through a highly engaged team. This role collaborates closely with the Market President and the Senior Leadership Team to achieve the hospital's strategic objectives and drive operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or related discipline; clinical background preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of healthcare experience, including five years of executive leadership within a multi-hospital system.
  • Proven leadership within a matrixed organizational structure.
  • Prior engagement in service line operations, including program development and expansion.
  • Proven experience in physician relations and practice management.
  • Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in hospital and health system administration, including strategic business planning and program development.
  • Experience leading population health management initiatives within an ACO framework.
  • In-depth knowledge of budget administration and financial management principles.
  • Familiarity with managed care systems and alternative reimbursement models.
  • Proficiency in structured performance improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, plan, and evaluate hospital operations to ensure timely, cost-effective execution of activities.
  • Collaborate with the senior management team to ensure efficient implementation of strategic objectives and plans.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of healthcare reform, organizational models, technologies, and hospital operations.
  • Direct the development of reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) and other significant benchmarking metrics.
  • Lead the development of reports on KPIs and benchmarking metrics, presenting findings to executive stakeholders.
  • Direct the creation, implementation, and evaluation of new or updated standards, policies, procedures, training materials, and communications.
  • Stay informed about national best practices, creating and promoting strategic programs that become benchmarks for the industry.
  • Collaborate with the President, senior management, and key stakeholders in formulating strategies, initiatives, and business development plans.
  • Evaluate current systems and services to assess growth opportunities, expansion, new services, and sustainability of existing services.
  • Align resources with organizational strategies to meet goals, manage expenditures, and identify negative variances.
  • Supervise the preparation of timely, accurate financial reports, budgets, activity, and productivity data.
  • Direct and assess the performance of subordinate management staff, ensuring compliance with internal/external regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and regulatory requirements for areas of responsibility.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes, professional standards, customer demographics, and industry trends.
  • Balance internal and external leadership, engaging with the local community.
