A Chief of Surveys plans and directs office and field activities of the Survey Section of the Transportation Engineering and Construction Division. Work of this class involves supervising survey personnel. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where there are few uncomfortable working conditions. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Have an associate’s degree in engineering technology, surveying, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • EXPERIENCE: Have six years of experience in performing surveying work, including three years of such supervisory experience as disciplining, evaluating the performance of, and recommending the hiring, firing and promoting of subordinate staff.
  • Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Non-supervisory experience or education may not be substituted for the supervisory experience requirement.
  • LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have Current registration as a Professional Land Surveyor or Property Line Surveyor in the State of Maryland is required.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of land surveying and drafting.
  • Knowledge of City and State laws pertaining to real property.
  • Ability to make complex land survey computations.
  • Ability to make decisions on establishment of undefined property lines and re-establishment of surveys and land boundaries.
  • Ability to interpret and explain plats, maps and deeds.
  • Supervisory ability.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
