About The Position

Mavericks Wanted When was the last time you achieved the impossible? If that thought feels overwhelming, you might want to pause here, but if it sparks excitement...read on In 2015, we pioneered a “moneyball for biotech” approach, pooling projects and promising early-stage research from academia together under one financial umbrella to reduce risk and unleash innovation. This model allows science and small teams of experts to lead the way. We build bridges to groundbreaking advancements in rare disease, and develop life-changing medicines for patients with unmet needs as fast as humanly possible. Together we define white space, push boundaries, and empower people to solve problems. If you're someone who defies convention, join us and work alongside some of the most respected minds in the industry. Together, we'll ask "why not?" and help reengineer the future of biopharma. At BridgeBio, we value curiosity and experimentation—including the ethical & thoughtful use of AI to improve clarity, speed, and quality of work. What You'll Do The Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Legal Officer runs two functions at the center of how BridgeBio makes decisions and manages risk: strategy and law. This role will spend greater focus on the strategy side, but both functions are important. Both matter. The Chief of Staff is a strategic and operational partner to the CSO and CLO and to the leadership team. The primary objective is to increase leverage, drive alignment, and advance high-priority initiatives across both functions. This is not a scheduling role. The person in this seat will help shape the company's most important priorities. BridgeBio is a place where business thinking drives legal. Legal presents the risk. The business and legal teams work together to make the best calls for patients. This role helps own the thinking on barriers and roadblocks, and finds the path forward, not the reason to stop. Scope and Impact You will have direct line of sight into the company's strategic decisions, and a genuine voice in how they are made. The work is real, the stakes are high, and the output matters. Front Lines of Building BridgeBio is at an inflection point. You will be at the front lines of building both a strategy function and a legal function from the ground up, at a company that is becoming something the industry has not seen before. Mission at the Core Every priority you drive, every initiative you advance, every briefing you prepare is ultimately in service of getting life-changing medicines to patients who have no alternatives.

Requirements

  • You are motivated by the mission. You understand that the decisions made in this role, which priorities to advance, which partners to engage, how to allocate a senior leader's finite attention, have direct consequences for patients who are counting on BridgeBio to move fast and move right.
  • You think from first principles. You do not reach for the template or the framework that worked last time. You start with the problem, work through it rigorously, and arrive at an answer you can defend in front of a skeptical Board or a demanding CEO.
  • You make complexity look simple. The best work in this role is invisible. The audience sees the clarity, not the effort. You know how to structure an argument, build a narrative, and produce a recommendation that makes the right decision obvious.
  • You understand that saying no carries a real cost. Your default is to find the path forward, not the reason to stop. You work within the system and you also work to change it.
  • You balance urgency with care, hope with realism, and agility with focus. This is not an academic role. It moves fast, the stakes are real, and the work has to be both rigorous and actionable.
  • You operate with high integrity and low ego. The best partners in this role make the people around them look good. You are here to serve the mission, not to own the credit.
  • You are genuinely motivated by the mission. Rare disease, genetic medicine, and the opportunity to help build a company that is making a real difference for patients who have been overlooked by the industry.
  • You bring 3 to 10 years of experience, with meaningful exposure to the biopharmaceutical or life sciences sector.
  • You communicate with precision and economy. You write and speak clearly, you know when to use a slide and when to use a conversation, and you never confuse activity with insight.
  • You have collaborated across functions and know how to build trust with people who have different priorities and different fluencies.
  • You are genuinely curious about technology, including how AI can make you faster and more effective. Candidates with no interest in that question are not the right fit for this team.
  • You have developed materials for senior audiences including Boards and C-suite executives.
  • You have demonstrated curiosity and adaptability in adopting AI-powered tools and technologies

Nice To Haves

  • Strategy or management consulting, ideally at a top-tier firm
  • Business development or strategic finance in biopharma
  • Investment banking or private equity with strong strategic exposure
  • Prior Chief of Staff or executive strategy experience
  • Legal background welcome but not required
  • An advanced degree is strongly preferred: What matters most is the quality of your thinking, not the credential on the wall.

Responsibilities

  • As Chief of Staff, you will serve as a strategic and operational partner to the CSO and CLO and executive leadership. You will not just execute. You will advise, advocate, and help the organization act.
  • Translate the CSO and CLO's priorities into clear plans, milestones, and accountability structures.
  • Track and advance the most critical cross-functional strategic initiatives across the strategy and legal functions. Most will be in strategy.
  • Identify where progress is stalling and help remove the obstacles.
  • Question assumptions and challenge how things are done in the service of the patient mission.
  • Support the firm's first strategic planning initiative, engaging on key strategic workstreams including affiliate structure considerations, platform strategy, and advancing a system of excellence and protecting our culture of innovation.

  • Prepare Board materials, executive communications, and briefing packages that reflect the CSO and CLO's voice and intent.
  • Serve as a credible and discreet point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Help shape the identity and culture of a legal and strategy function being built from scratch. The norms, the standards, and the way this team shows up are still being defined. You will have a hand in defining them.
  • Act as proxy or delegate for the CSO and CLO when appropriate.
  • Engage in actual and potential deals and transactions (only if relevant) from both the strategic and legal sides.
  • Support IP strategy in partnership with the Chief IP Counsel, including IP strategy and IP positioning.
  • Help the incoming Chief IP Counsel translate IP positioning into commercial and competitive strategy, bridging the gap between legal protection and business advantage.
  • Work on the firm’s first strategic plan, partnering with the new head of strategic planning and CSO. Help drive strategy into the culture of the organization.
  • Coordinate across legal leadership to ensure alignment and execution on priority matters.
  • Support the evolution of Enterprise Risk Management as it transitions from a legal function to a strategic one.
  • Lead horizon scanning including governmental, geopolitical, and market dynamic shifts that could affect the business.
  • Own discrete, high-priority special projects from start to finish.
  • Dig into problems that do not fit neatly into existing functions and bring well-developed perspectives to the CSO and CLO.
  • Evaluate and potentially lead the implementation of AI and ML tools, including tools to drive efficiencies with drafting, IP FTO, patent claims, compliance, e-billing, and more.
  • Help build and manage the preferred external counsel panel, ensuring firms understand the business and are priced for a long-term relationship.
  • Support legal operations contract lifecycle management process.
  • Drive efficiency initiatives that return time from routine work to judgment and client partnership.
