About The Position

Our Central Office at School in the Square exists to support and strengthen our schools: our Early Childhood Center, our Elementary School, our Middle School, and our growing High School (9th through 11th for SY 26-27). The Central Office is responsible for delivering high quality academic, operational, talent, human resources, financial, and community engagement services and resources that enable school leaders and teachers to focus on student learning and success. We are looking for dedicated, mission-aligned Central Office staff who will work closely with school-based staff to provide guidance, resources, and problem solving support that will advance instructional quality, organizational effectiveness, and student outcomes. School in the Square is seeking a Chief of Staff (COS) to help lead the Central Office by ensuring the key values of clarity, cohesion, collaboration and accountability guide the day-to-day cross-functional work that supports our schools. This position reports to our Executive Director, and serves as a strategic partner supporting the organization’s effectiveness in executing organizational-wide priorities rooted in student success. The Chief of Staff will be responsible for facilitating coordination and collaboration among the senior leaders of the Central Office to ensure alignment and effective, seamless execution of organizational-wide initiatives and strategies in service of the School in the Square mission and values.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proven experience in strategy, operations, consulting, or program management in mission-driven organizations.
  • A graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree, an Advanced Degree preferred.
  • Experience working directly with senior executives.
  • Familiarity with change management and organizational design
  • Experience supporting boards or governance bodies.
  • Strategic thinker who has a proven track record of resolving complex problems anchored in a high level of integrity and judgment.
  • Highly organized, conscientious and execution oriented, including exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable and successful in navigating ambiguity and complexity.
  • Collaborative mindset where they use strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills to actively partner with peers and stakeholders to share ideas and listen to diverse perspectives to align on and make decisions.
  • Deep alignment with organizational values and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic partner with the Executive Director on the planning, executing, and progressing organization-wide initiatives with clarity, cohesion, collaboration and accountability - including organizational advancement opportunities and risk management.
  • Coordinates and facilitates translating organizational-wide priorities and initiatives into collaborative student-centered, mission-driven action across the organization.
  • Build a culture of cross-functional collaboration and transparency by ensuring alignment, clarity and accountability on organizational-wide initiatives.
  • Establish and implement accountability structures and systems to support Central Office leadership team effectiveness.
  • Anticipate the needs of the Executive Director by preparing materials and data to make strategic recommendations to avert anticipated organizational risks.
  • Establish adult culture systems and training to ensure School in the Square relationships are mission-aligned and effective to achieve clarity, cohesion, collaboration and accountability.
