Chief of Staff — University Veterinary Hospital (Berkeley, CA) Who are we?: University Veterinary Hospital (UVH) has proudly served Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville, Oakland, Richmond, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, and surrounding East Bay communities for over 30 years. We are a full-service animal hospital dedicated to delivering comprehensive pet healthcare with modern medicine, advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies, and a deeply compassionate approach. Our team provides a wide range of services that support pets’ health at every stage of life — from preventive wellness to complex surgical care. Position Overview: We are seeking a Chief of Staff to partner with our Hospital Manager and our medical team in driving operational excellence, strategic initiatives, and team performance across all clinical and administrative functions. This is a high-impact leadership role for a seasoned veterinary professional or practice leader with a passion for elevating quality patient care and building a positive, collaborative workplace culture. This role also offers a personal-time friendly schedule of 3 days/30 hours per week, which is full time with full benefits. Our Services Include: Preventive & Wellness Care: Routine exams, puppy & kitten care, senior pet care, vaccinations, and health screenings to ensure long-term well-being Diagnostics & In-House Testing: Digital x-rays, comprehensive diagnostics, and advanced equipment for accurate early detection Surgical Services: A full suite of veterinary surgeries, including orthopedic procedures, spay/neuter, and other surgical interventions performed with safety and comfort in mind Dental Care: Oral health services ranging from routine cleaning to advanced dental treatments Pharmacy & Support: In-house pharmacy to support treatment plans and ensure continuity of care We are committed not only to clinical excellence but also to strengthening the human-animal bond and supporting the wellbeing of pet guardians in our community.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience in a veterinary or healthcare setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on operational execution.
  • Commitment to delivering best-in-class service to pets and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor cross-functional teams, fostering growth, accountability, and a cohesive practice culture.
  • Work closely with clinical leadership to align services, workflows, and patient-centric outcomes.
  • Oversee key operational areas including scheduling, quality assurance, performance metrics, client experience, and staff development.
  • Champion strategic initiatives including community outreach, service expansion, and technology adoption.
  • Support daily hospital operations with a focus on efficiency, consistency, and excellent communication among teams.
