About The Position

The Chief of Police is responsible for planning, directing, and controlling the operations and resources of the Police Department. This role involves developing departmental goals, implementing directives from the Mayor and City Council, and maintaining community relations. The Chief oversees senior-level managers, manages the budget, and ensures compliance with laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Management, or a related field.
  • Ten years of law enforcement experience, including two years as a Captain or higher rank.
  • Valid driver's license and Tennessee Police Officer Certification.

  • Knowledge of community relations principles.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise senior-level managers, including prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring staff training.
  • Prepare and administer the department's budget, including cost estimates and justifications for budget items.
  • Direct the implementation of internal operations for the department, including planning, coordinating, and evaluating programs and processes.
  • Review, analyze, and approve various department reports.
  • Coordinate activities with local, State, and Federal agencies and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain community relations.
