About The Position

The position involves overseeing quality and safety activities within the Division of Physics, ensuring compliance with national accreditation standards, and enhancing patient experience in radiation oncology. The role includes strategic input on new treatment technologies, managing clinical operations, and leading educational initiatives within the department.

Requirements

  • Medical Physics Residency or equivalent training in medical physics.
  • Minimum 7 years work experience.
  • Ph.D in Physics.
  • New York State License in Medical Physics - Therapeutic Radiological (Can be obtained upon hire).
  • Board Certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physics.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee activities required for maintenance of national accreditation.
  • Assist Chair in selection of new accreditation and quality programs to be implemented in the Department.
  • Lead Division of Physics quality program including oversight of QA of Radiation Oncology equipment and treatment delivery.
  • Perform annual OPPE evaluations of all Division of Physics staff.
  • Collaborate with Department members, hospital staff and patients to ensure an outstanding patient experience.
  • Play a key role in working with Chair on selection of new treatment technology for the main campus Department.
  • Provide input into new program opportunities both at existing network sites and with new ventures.
  • Lead recruitment of additional medical physics faculty, dosimetrists and radiation therapists.
  • Develop staffing models that are both efficient and ensure high quality care.
  • Develop and maintain strong organizational structure and morale, including medical physics, dosimetry and therapy.
  • Participate in provision of standard services expected of clinical physicists to facilitate outstanding radiation oncology patient care.
  • Develop and with Chair implement a plan for a divisional research program.
  • Identify research opportunities that lead to securing NIH and other third party support.
  • Mentor faculty in achieving goals needed for promotion of academic rank including guidance with publication to bring national attention to the Department.
  • Oversee physics education within the Department including therapy students, medical students, pediatric and medical oncology fellows.
  • Lead effort to establish a CAMPEP residency program.
  • Support effort as requested by Chair to achieve long-term goal of establishing Department medical residency program.
