The Chief of Medical Physics at WMCHealth is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the Division of Physics within the Department of Radiation Oncology. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of quality and safety protocols, as the Chief will lead activities necessary for maintaining national accreditation and will assist the Chair in selecting new accreditation and quality programs to be implemented. The Chief will also be responsible for leading the Division's quality program, which includes oversight of quality assurance (QA) for Radiation Oncology equipment and treatment delivery. Annual evaluations of all Division of Physics staff will be conducted to ensure high standards of performance and patient care. In addition to quality oversight, the Chief will play a strategic role in collaborating with the Chair on the selection of new treatment technologies for the main campus Department. This includes providing input into new program opportunities at existing network sites and potential new ventures. The Chief will also lead the recruitment efforts for additional medical physics faculty, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists, ensuring that the Division is staffed with qualified professionals to deliver exceptional patient care. The Chief of Medical Physics will have primary responsibility for the daily operations related to QA, simulation, treatment planning, treatment delivery, and verification. Developing efficient staffing models that ensure high-quality care is essential, as is maintaining a strong organizational structure and morale within the medical physics, dosimetry, and therapy teams. The Chief will also participate in the provision of standard services expected of clinical physicists to facilitate outstanding radiation oncology patient care. Research is another critical component of this role. The Chief will work with the Chair to implement a divisional research program, identifying opportunities that can lead to securing NIH and other third-party support. Mentorship of faculty in achieving their academic promotion goals, including guidance on publication, will be a key responsibility to enhance the Department's national reputation. Education is also a significant aspect of this position. The Chief will oversee physics education within the Department, which includes therapy students, medical students, and oncology fellows. Leading the effort to establish a CAMPEP residency program and supporting the Chair in achieving the long-term goal of establishing a medical residency program are also essential duties.
