About The Position

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at Advocate South Suburban Hospital is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the site nursing operations plan, ensuring alignment with the site and system nursing strategy. This role includes managing nursing clinical quality performance, team member engagement, and patient experience while promoting a culture of safety and high reliability. The CNO commits to continuous quality improvement, collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and quality leaders to monitor clinical quality targets, and develops plans to address performance gaps. The CNO also develops strategic plans for growth and innovation, evaluates healthcare technology, and leads initiatives to maintain or achieve Magnet status. This position requires strong leadership in clinical excellence, professional development, and adherence to regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) and Master's Degree in any field OR Bachelor's Degree in any field with a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN).
  • Typically requires 15 years of experience in nursing and health care administration.
  • 5 plus years of management experience in managing staff and budgets.
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Skills in developing, facilitating, and leading nursing programs and initiatives.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of effective best practices in nursing operations, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the development and implementation of the site nursing operations plan including staffing resource requirements, care models, workflows and throughput, equipment, and technology.
  • Responsible for nursing clinical quality performance, team member engagement, and patient experience.
  • Promotes a culture of safety and high reliability behaviors.
  • Commits to continuous quality improvement and monitors performance to clinical quality targets.
  • Develops short- and long-term strategic plans, including growth and innovation strategies.
  • Leverages and evaluates health care technology to optimize nursing practice and patient care.
  • Leads to an environment of clinical excellence and engages nurses in evidence-based practice.
  • Ensures continuous professional development for all team members.
  • Interprets and complies with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Develops and maintains strong physician relationships and oversees the development of policies and procedures.
  • Supports a Just Culture reporting environment and serves as a change leader.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities including interviewing, promotions, and performance evaluations.
  • Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets.
